Overview
White ink in your art project can provide a distinct contrast to other colors used in your artwork. White ink can be found in a variety of pens as well as ink in a bottle which has a similar consistency to watercolor and is very liquid. Inks from a bottle allow a broader application across larger spaces. Pens provide a limited space application, however, they allow you to add more detailed work to you art.
As with most inks, white ink can vary in opacity. Pens are distinctly more opaque, however have the application limitations for broad coverage. Fluid inks can be both opaque and translucent.
Goals
Some suggestions for using white ink include:
• Write text in white ink over a colored background
• Use white to create highlights in your artwork. Good for adding highlights in hair and reflections in eyes.
• Use white as a contrasting color to other colors in your artwork. Black creates an effective contrast to white as do most dark colors.
• Use white ink to create splatters over your artwork. This is useful for adding textures like snow and sparkling stars in a night sky.
